FAQs Birth and Postpartum Doula
When should I hire you as a doula?
The earlier the better. Most important is that we have a good connection and you can feel at ease.
Will you support me through whatever birth experience I choose?
All birth experiences are birth and I am at your side during and/or after your birth, depending on what you choose to book me for. I support all types of birth experiences.
I am already a mum and we will add a sibling to our family. Will you be there for our firstborn, too?
As a doula, my work centers around making you feel most comfortable and cared for. This includes supporting your growing family and easing your way into this new chapter of all your lives.
Are you certified, and with whom?
Yes, I am a certified Carriage House Birth New York Doula and also completed the Newborn Mothers postpartum training.
I am also specialized and received training by Amy Wright Glenn for parents-to-be who have previously experienced pregnancy loss.
Over the years and through my own birth experiences I have developed and specialized in a holistic approach. I do so with the guidance of my experiences from 6+ of working for the Meditation App Calm and their pregnancy and motherhood content.
What is a Doula and why you should get one:
A doula is a trained professional who supports families through pregnancy, birth, and the initial first 40 days postpartum period. My work is centered on ensuring a positive birth experience and arrival in parenthood for you and your family. While a midwife offers you medical care, I am here for your emotional well-being during this major transition of your life. For me, giving birth is the ultimate moment of transformation as a new mother is simultaneously born and needs support in the process. I mentor you with my 10 years plus experience in meditation and working with clients.
Science-Based Benefits of Having a Doula
The World Health Organization recommends that every birthing person have access to a doula. Extensive research underscores the significant positive impact doulas have on birth outcomes. This is largely due to the continuous care provided during birth and the trusting relationship developed throughout pregnancy. Here are the most up-to-date statistics from the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (2017):
39% decrease in the risk of Cesarean
15% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth
10% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief
Shorter labors by 41 minutes on average
38% decrease in the baby’s risk of a low five-minute Apgar score
31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience
